Black Myths or Black Facts

Most bigots or racists focus on who was the first person to invent a comb, elevator, cell phone, etc. to try and justified their claims of gender and racial superiority.  This is not the purpose of this web site.  Our purpose is to help people understand the positive economic and job creation impact of people of color on the American culture and economy. Our purpose is not to reinvent history but to tell TURTH, period.

Black Myths or Facts

We admit that myths have been created by minorities and woman just like European males, (gee josh really!!) about who is the greatness inventors of all time. There are African American web sites with controversial articles that assume that many inventions would not have been invented if black people did not exist. Thus because of this fiction, racists have used this as an opportunity (and so-called proof) to produced counterpoint racist web sites that falsely give the impression that black inventors have not achieved or invented any great things.

Therefore we simply ask you to beware of what you read on both sides of he fence and do your HOMEWORK!!

More specifically did you know that 99.999 percent of all patents are for improvements to pre-existing items? Did you know that Thomas Edison, was NOT the first person to invent a light bulb, but did invent over fifty different types of light bulbs? Further more not one of the black inventors lied in their patent applications by saying they had invented a totally new invention.

Here is a  partial list of creditable web sites to do your research:

  1. The Department of Commerce United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)

  2. JSTOR -- (Concerning Henry E. Baker and his work). Henry Baker was a second assistant patent examiner at the USPTO, who was dedicated to uncovering and publicizing the contributions of Black inventors.

  3. Profiles in Black History -- (University of Washington)

What is Important!

The list of African American patent holders holds historical value far beyond winning the "first" race. It has led to research that answered many important questions. For example:
  • Knowing and understanding the "Value-Add" of people of color and women's inventions and historical contributions to the American GDP.
  • What impact did their inventions have in job creation for all Americans?
  • What impact did their inventions have in providing opportunities for personal wealth accumulation, (.i.e., as an example, "the Stock Market" or whole new markets)?
  • What does it mean to minority youth to understand that their people have ALSO contributed to America's greatness?
  • Who were the first African Americans, male and female, to receive a U.S. patent?
  • What were African American inventors inventing during the 19th and early 20th centuries?
  • Did early black inventors profit from their inventions?
  • What are contemporary African American scientists and inventors achieving today?

Know your true history because "Knowledge is Power"
